Sign Bar Runners
National bar chain commissioned us to create a bar runner with sign language on to support Deaf people when out socialising in their bars with friends. Being Deaf myself I know how frustrating it gets when bar staff don’t understand what I’m trying to order and when they guess they always get it wrong. So This bar runner enables the Deaf person and the member of staff to point at the bar runner and sign what is on the picture, this makes communication easier between the two people and the right drink is ordered leaving both the staff member and Deaf person happy. It is easy to use and effortlessly builds up knowledge of basic sign language.
University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN)Project
At UCLAN I decided to create different tools that could be used in the work place such as mouse mats with inserts, posters and binder with booklets relating to signs used in and around the place of work. Deaf people cannot always have an interpreter with them so the idea of having the signs which are most frequently used in the work place on various surfaces, would enable Deaf people to go in to the organization and feel confident there will be a way for staff to communicate effectively with them
